Does this sound familiar?

  • Bear just won't listen. We tell him what to do, but he ignores us.
  • My dog is out of control- jumping on people, stealing things around the house, won't come when called, destroying things- help!
  • King growls when I try to get him off the furniture, or take his food or toy away.
We'll be away for a week, can you train Lucy instead of her going to a kennel?
  • I don't even want to take walks anymore; Sassy won't stop pulling or lunging at other dogs.
  • Chloe is aggressive; she just bit someone.
  • The puppy won't stop nipping the kids, and it hurts!
  • Rex keeps messing on the carpet, even though he knows better.
  • We just adopted this dog from the shelter, and he has "issues".
  • I just want a polite, well-mannered dog- not this lunatic!
  • I just got a puppy and want to train her, but the vet said I have to wait for all her shots.
  • Missy thinks she's human, so I've spoiled her. Now she's pushy, snappy, and barks at everything.

Whether you have these or other problems with your dog, or just want some basic training and manners, help is on the way!

"Patty, I can't thank you enough! You were our last resort for Dakota; other trainers and our vet recommended euthanasia. We noticed such a big difference just after the first session; it was a miracle! We now have hope."  J.S., Cheboygan

"With kids, jobs, and my parents, we just didn't have the time to train the puppy. We seriously considered giving her up. After a week with you, she came home a new dog and now WE know what to do. When I drop her off every week for continued training, she gets so excited, and I can get errands done. Thank you! We've told all our friends to call you." J.L. Bay Harbor

"I LOVED Puppy class! Besides being so much fun to watch the puppies play, I learned alot, and so did Daisy. I looked forward to every Sunday. The best part was watching our daughter gain so much confidence around dogs. Thanks for all the handouts, too!"  D.M., Oden

Hi Patty, I can't thank you enough for teaching us "Leave It".  I've been working with Guinness every day and he's finally expanding his understanding of the command to include things like my arm or my leg.  Oh happy day!  It is so nice to have found a trainer that understands Guinness and can teach us how to deal with him.  He keeps improving and is actually becoming a good companion. (Note: Guinness was very aggressive and bit another trainer who refused to work with him)

Thank you again for all your help, you are truly a gifted trainer.  We are both impressed because you listened to our tales and came up with a solution that worked for our specific situation.  Sounds simple, but very few people approach problem solving in this mannerK.B., Bellaire

Many of these products can supplement or even replace meeting with me, saving you money (though there is NO substitute for meeting with a good trainer). They are well-researched and professional resources by highly-respected Animal Behaviorist, Dr. Suzanne Hetts.  Downloadable books, DVDs, desensitization CDs on a huge variety of subjects- all using dog-friendly, scientific methods. Take a look! Most popular- Dog desensitization CD.

Patty- Thank you so much for recommending that Dog barking CD from your website. I started it at a real low volume, and Danny went ballistic, but in a short time, I was able to gradually increase the volume, while doing the WATCH, and he's been calm as can be. We were able to go on a walk past 2 barking dogs, and he was fine- it's a miracle!!  N.M., Torch Lake

Patty,  Thanks for a great time with Emmie.  We'll be working on our assignments. The new approach to training with more positive and less negative is a huge move from the old days.  I suspect that some of the more forward thinking gundog trainers have moved that way as well. Sure glad we came to see you.  G.M., Drummond Island

"When we first called you, we decided against it because your prices were too high for us, and you were too busy to see us right away. So we called other trainers, and they just didn't seem as professional as you, and they were *too* available, though much cheaper! We also called vets and the Humane Societies, and your name was always at the top of the list. When a neighbor mentioned she had just seen you, we took the plunge, and boy, are we glad we did. We learned So much! As in all things I guess it's true you get what you pay for!  B.W., St. Ignace

Patty, We think you're the BEST dog trainer we've ever had. We can't thank you enough for all your hard work in helping Annie, and now Lily, reach their potential! I.C., Charlevoix

"Two of our friends just got puppies, and we'd like to get them a gift certificate for your New Puppy private session. We found that session so helpful, it should be required for new owners. Thanks!" T.D,  Good Hart

Classes!!
Although I specialize in private training, I LOVE teaching classes. Come help your puppy/dog get the critical socialization and basic training that he/she needs. Puppies as young as 8-16 weeks old. (Older puppies/dogs with approval are welcome, or in separate classes.)

These professionally-run classes are small enough for individual attention and are geared towards learning the basic behaviors around distractions. Guaranteed lots of fun and education for dogs and owners! Lots of handouts, too.

A private session with your family and dog is a prerequisite to taking class.
Note: I am temporarily waiving the requirement for the private session before Basic Training & Manners Class (still required for all other classes). I want as many dogs as possible to get some training. HOWEVER, this session will GREATLY improve you and your dog's success. If your puppy/dog is growling/biting or exhibiting any other problem behaviors, this waiver doesn't apply- private session is required.

Please call or email to register for class, send payment to hold your space, and click here for important info. For more details on classes see Services and Prices page, under Puppy Classes.

"Thanks for the terrific (New Puppy) training session! Matt [husband] was so glad he went, and he's even coming to puppy kindergarten now. Thanks so much, again. You can add him to your list of men who thought they wouldn't need the class, but then loved it and wanted to come back. I also learned a lot, and we've been practicing the new skills with Ike. "  S.B., Petoskey

"I can't get over how much we learned in the private session before Puppy Class, and now see how valuable it was to have that before class. Daisy's doing SO well, way beyond our expectations, and we love coming to class. I told my vet you're the best. Thank you!!"  S.W., Cheboygan

"We thank you very much, we are very impressed with clicker training, it certainly works for us...and I do think, that the one on one session you do before a class starts is great, you get to know us a little bit and what the dog can and cannot do , well I suppose what we can and cannot do....and then we liked it was such a small class.....nice people too.....
Once again thank you....." D.T., Mullet Lake
